New exhibition at Wisbech Gallery on South Brink
A new exhibition is being held at the Wisbech Gallery on South Brink.
While Blackfield Creatives, the non-profit organisation which manages the gallery, already hosts its Annual Open Exhibition, ‘DRAW 25’ is its first open competition focused on drawing.
This new exhibition features more than 80 beautiful works of art, which have been created by 40 artists, located across the East of England.
Ruby Bellamy, Wisbech Gallery manager, said: “We developed the concept of an open drawing competition as we want people to consider the idea of ‘what is drawing’ and think about its definition in the widest sense.
“The judging panel had a difficult job selecting which artworks would appear in the exhibition, and they also had to choose the winning entry and runner-up. In fact, there were so many fantastic submissions that the panel chose their own personal favourites, which were given a Judges’ Special Mention Award too”.
The artwork selected as the winning entry for DRAW 25 was ‘Leaving a Piece of Youth’ by artist Amanda Palmer, and ‘I Am Platypus’ by Rachel Collier-Wilson was the runner-up.
Winning artist Amanda said: “As an artist who enjoyed and participated in last year’s Annual Open Exhibition, I was keen to submit my work for the DRAW 25 exhibition.
“The submission process was straightforward, and I appreciated that each piece was judged fairly and anonymously… I was thrilled to have my piece chosen for the show, and delighted to have had my piece selected as the winning entry."
The team is asking visitors to the gallery to select their favourite artwork too, so why not visit , pick up a catalogue, have a look at the pieces on display and see if you agree with the judges?
The gallery is open from Wednesday to Saturday, between 10am and 4pm and entry is free, The exhibition runs until Saturday, June 14 and there is also a shop, so you can buy prints, art cards and books created by many of the artists who have exhibited in the gallery in previous exhibitions too.
