Wisbech Rookies netballers' super start to East Regional Clubs League campaign
Rookies Netball Club has had an excellent start to this competitive season.
All players have been working extremely hard at training and the results are starting to show.
The regional squad are now half-way through their second season in Division One of the East Regional Clubs League, having managed to stay up in their first year at the highest level of regional competition.
After eight games, Rookies have 24 points and sit fifth in the table with three wins, one draw and four close defeats.
So far Rookies have beaten Hatfield Hawks 39-38, Team Beds 55-43 and Eastwood 53-45. Losses came against Turnford (51-44), National Prem relegated Hertford Hornets (57-45), Crosskeys (54-52) and Omega (52-49) with a 41-all draw coming against Norfolk United to finish the first half of the season.
The squad lost two players through injury in early matches, meaning players have had to adapt to positions they don’t usually play – a real positive for this club to have such versatility among their ranks.
The club stated: “A lot of hard work is needed at such a tough level and playing against the biggest and best clubs in the region, but Rookies are excited for the second half of the season to see if they can turn those close losses and the draw into wins.”
Rookies’ County Premier squad have also had a fantastic start to their season.

The team has welcomed some new faces and, so far having played nine games, they have only suffered two losses and one draw giving them their best position before the Christmas break. With five wins in succession they are hoping to continue the momentum in the new year to stay within the top half of the league and avoid the possibility of relegation.
