Scorer Smith off to Fenmen flier
Wisbech 1, Bugbrooke 0
Fenmen boss Dick Creasey wants to keep the pressure off 17-year-old Jacob Smith who has scored in each of his two senior team games.
Smith (no relation to Wisbech’s Billy) notched the winner on 31 minutes after starting Saturday’s league cup tie. He found the target on his first team debut last Tuesday in the 4-1 win at Eynesbury Rovers.
Creasey said: “He’s a young boy and I thought it would be a good opportunity to have a look at him. He’s raw and took his goals well.
“If we’re not too careful we could put too much expectation and pressure on him.”
Wisbech next Saturday entertain Huntingdon Town, who are immediately below the Fenmen.
Creasey added: “We’ve got two big games coming up, Huntingdon and Holbeach. These could make or break our season.”
Creasey hopes defender Nathan Horne (hamstring) will be available while keeper Lea Jordan should be fit after taking a knock on the hip. Billy Smith will be out until after Christmas.
Other scorers at Eynesbury: Danny Beaumont (2), Tommy Treacher.
Wisbech: Jordan, Johnson, Fairweather, Wilson, Spafford, Lunn, Reid, Bishop, Cobb, Treacher, Beaumont. Subs: Bayliss, Cousins, J. Smith.
